Meta...no, not my Indian friend - Dont get swallowed by...THE BLOG!
Vlad 2.0...Coming soon!
Meta...no, not my Indian friend
For those of you that have wondered about my screenname, I'll now try to explain it.

A lot of peoples screennames are obscure references. For example Stephens screenname, nitwit027 is a reference to our original improv team back in high school, N.I.T.W.I.T. (Northwest Improv Team With Insane Tendencies). Thats also his screenname on AIM. Before that his screenname was LaxJedi27 because he played lacrosse and was a Star Wars, uh, "fan." The AIM screenname of Jon is nowereman7. This is a reference to an old UPN show that ran for one season...I only know that cuz I loved that show. Jon's lj sn supernova_7 is, well, I dunno what its about, maybe explosive diarrhea? Hope not. I however could never commit myself to one obscure reference to be my screenname. My original AIM screenname was Vladnroses because I liked guns n roses when I made that sn (back in like 8th grade) but it still had my name in it. But my email and original lj sns were VFefer, just my initial and my last name. Oh how clever! I use the same format as the Department of State!

Other peoples screennames are just their names with some slight modifications. Levi's AIM screenname is MasterLeviticus. Not because he really likes that book of the Bible, but because his name is RIGHT THERE!

So when it came time to choose a new screenname (Vladnroses and VFefer just weren't cuttin it) I knew "Vlad" would be in there somewhere, but what else? vlad was already taken. As was vladimir. I tried out some "the"s. VladtheComedian/VladTheComic seemed semi-retarded. So did TheVlad. Although if I ever sell out, there will be a Vlad The Comic. And an action figure called The Vlad, or even better a hairstyle called The Vlad.

Then I figured out I wanted to put a prefix onto my name and just have that as my screenname. Suffixes such as "-ology" are, well, let me show you: Vladology. UGH. I went through some standards. PreVlad and PostVlad seemed too linear and apocolyptic, respectively. SemiVlad felt incomplete, and I wasnt very partial to it, so I wasn't going to committ to it wholly. I got a million of these!

HomoVlad (though the prefix means "same") didnt give the image I wanted to convey.
AntiVlad, umm no one is AntiVlad.
MicroVlad is a name that belongs somewhere else...not that micro is even the term one would use!

Eventually I came to meta. I have always liked that prefix if just for its versatility. Here my friends is the official definition: meta
1. Later in time: metestrus.
2. At a later stage of development: metanephros.
3. Situated behind: metacarpus.
4. Change; transformation: metachromatism.
5. Alternation: metagenesis.
6. Beyond; transcending; more comprehensive: metapsychology.
7. At a higher state of development: metazoan.
8. Having undergone metamorphosis: metamyelocyte.

Look at all that. But none of these really fit when describing my livejournal. So:
Philosophy: A prefix meaning one level of description higher. If X is some concept then meta-X is data about, or processes operating on, X. For example, a metasyntax is syntax for specifying syntax, metalanguage is a language used to discuss language, meta-data is data about data, and meta-reasoning is reasoning about reasoning.

And thusly, MetaVlad is Vlad about Vlad. Which is exactly what this is. Next time: Metahumor.

Now, how did you come up with your screenname?

Ahh, you see I am retarded and always read it as "metalvlad", so I always pictured a dude in armor speaking when I read your posts.

Mine is just based off of a website I used to have called "The Shrine 'O Alex"

Mine came from when I was with Darrick but wated to be with Tim. I knew it was wrong to fantasize about Tim, hence the Taboo part. And "TabooFantasy" was already taken, so I created TabooPhantasy.
I love my name, even though I hate who what it spawned from

Awesome. This was a really good idea, everyone should put up a post explaining these things. Well not everyone as some names simply suck. But really a long drawn out discussion on the formulation/creation of an IM name is a good deal!

Mine is so simple its sickening.

Group of guys, a clique. Each is known for something. Friend who knows a lot about computers becomes godofcpu. Friend who knows a lot about cars becomes godofjeep. I, knowing about war become godofwar. Get accepted to Hawaii, Alohagodofwar.

I probably laughed for about 3 minutes straight at "Vladnroses". Good shit my man.

As far as my screenname, there's not much too it. Just a normal word. To be honest, I started this lj in like 6th grade and had no idea what it even meant at the time.

My screen name stems from a combination of my current profession and my desire to someday augment that current profession by jumping out of airplanes. I share the screen name with the group of people who did the just that in Germany, circa 1944. (By that I don't mean to imply that they had screen names.) Given the above, who am I?
