Oh yeah.
And for those of you unaware I shall explain.

A gangsta has class. A thug does not.

ScarfaceDon Corleone was a gangsta. 50 Cent is a thug. You cannot buy class.

Please adjust accordingly.

Addendum: It is possible to move up however. Example: Tupac started out as a thug, later went legit and became a gangsta. Had he lived, he probably would have made it to pimp (e.g. Snoop). America is all about upword mobility. Especially for the young urban black man. (See? Sense of Irony.)

yo professor V, hit me with some knowledge

is class the only determining factor bettwen levels of gangstaesqueness(sp)?

would you rather be a rich thug or a poor gangsta?

is there any difference in "street cred levels" when you're a legit gangsta (tupac) as opposed to straight-up gangsta (scarface)?

Re: yo professor V, hit me with some knowledge

1) Anyone can be a thug just like anyone can be a purse snatcher, but it takes a lot more to be able to rob a bank or a museum. Gangstas have a whole different air about them. But class is one of the main requirements.

2)I would rather be a poor gangsta.

3)Both have street cred, but chances are the gangsta will not double cross his allies where as a thug is fucking crazy. Also, more people want to be friends with the gangsta. The gangsta has parties, the thug gets (too) drunk at them.

I don't mean to start a debate but I do not feel that Scarface, if you are refering to Al Pacino's character, is a gangster. He lacks compunction and patience. Don Corleon or Carlo Gambino would be a much better example.

Duly noted, and adjusted.
